Cover & interior art © Vincent Sammy I hope you're all having a really great Easter and aren't making yourself sick with all your chocolate eggs!

We have a brilliant book to announce today which is now available for pre-order.

I've been a long-time massive fan of Ray Garton. Ray is one of the two authors who got me into horror books. So, it's with HUGE pleasure that I can announce that SST is publishing a new Ray Garton Signed Limited Hardcover!

PARANOIA TANGO BY RAY GARTON

Some claim we are living in the "last days." Some believe that extraterrestrials have been controlling world events for ages and now, having grown weary of us, are hitting the reset button. Others suspect that a sinister cabal has somehow wrested control from the hands of all the world powers and are steering us toward doom. The only thing everyone agrees on is this:

Something is not right. Something seems to be sucking the hope out of the world.

Hector Graham sees it in the gradual death of his hometown, Seabreeze, where he was born and grew up, where he married and raised a son. He sees it in the arrival at night of strange children who go door to door, demanding to be let inside. For some, the children bear gifts . . . but they come with a terrible price.

Jeff Duggins sees it in the sudden disappearance of an online friend known as Lizard Man. Jeff and his friend Darryl take a road trip to Sacramento to check up on Lizard Man and make sure he's okay. They are concerned because he's been making some strange claims about a pet iguana that has grown to enormous size and started to talk . . . and say some scary things.

Ray Garton brings his unique brand of fear to these two novelettes of modern dread in the digital age . . . a time when nothing is as it seems and everyone has a theory about what's really going on.

The music has begun. It's time to dance the . . . PARANOIA TANGO.

"The pair of terrific novelettes that comprise Paranoia Tango are vintage Ray Garton! Razor-sharp, thought-provoking, creepy as hell, and populated with three-dimensional characters readers will instantly root for! But don't get your hopes up too high for these folks—Garton isn't playing nice in Paranoia Tango, a double-barreled nightmare for this new world we all live in!"
—Richard Chizmar, author of Gwendy's Button Box (with Stephen King) and A Long December

"The Paranoia Tango is a pair of dark, twisted tales that drag you into the twisted depths of human susceptibility, the nagging lizard-brain that tells us that everything isn't what it seems, and what lies behind it all is much, much worse. Ray Garton's gripping, visceral stories will tie you in knots and leave you yearning for another dance."
—Patrick Freivald, author of Jade Sky, Black Tide & Jade Gods

We are publishing this excellent book in two Limited Edition Hardcover states:

A 250-copy Signed & Numbered Limited Hardcover edition and,

A 52-copy Signed & Lettered Remarqued Limited Hardcover edition. Each copy of the Lettered Remarqued edition comes with an original remarque by Glenn Chadbourne making each copy of the book a very unique collectable. (When you purchase the Lettered edition direct from SST you will receive an exclusive SST bookmark SIGNED by Ray Garton!)

This book promises to be a beautiful edition. Especially with the fantastic cover and interior art by the incredible Vincent Sammy. I really can't wait for you to see this one.

Cover art © Vincent Chong We are extremely sorry for the delay publishing SHADOW CASTING: THE BEST OF PAUL KANE.

Due to circumstances beyond our control the book will no longer come with the DVD of the short film CONFIDENCE. We are so sorry about that. But, we have come up with something we feel is even more collectible!

The book will now come with an exclusive audio CD containing two story readings from the book by professional actor, Philip James Lunt, giving you over an hour’s worth of material instead of a 15 minute short film. Plus, each CD will be personally SIGNED and REMARQUED by author Paul Kane to make it highly collectible!

We really are very sorry we can't supply the DVD with the book, but it is beyond our control we're afraid. And we do really think the audio readings CD will make your copy of the book much more collectible with the personal remarque and signature from Paul Kane.

The book is now at the printer and shouldn't be too much longer. You can track the production progress of all our pre-orders on the Pre-order page: https://www.sstpublications.co.uk/sst/Pre-orders/index.html

Thank you for your understanding and your patience! :)

Two great new blurbs for John L. Lansdale's new weird western novel Zombie Gold:

"Zombie Gold could be considered a work of horror, especially coming from Short, Scary Tales Publications. But upon closer examination, it is much more than that. This little novel packs in a solid dose of supernatural elements, legendary folklore, time traveling science fiction (or fantasy, depending on your perspective), and just enough historical fiction to bring it all together. True to Lansdale tradition, John L. Lansdale has compiled a piece of work that should appeal to a wide range of readers."
Ricky L. Brown, Amazing Stories.

"Zombie Gold is an entertaining, well paced science fiction-historical-horror blend with resourceful protagonists and a solid cast of secondary characters. While this will obviously appeal to fans of the weird western, Hell's Bounty that Lansdale co-wrote with his brother, bestselling author Joe R. Lansdale, fans of Jonathan Maberry should also give this a try."
RA for All.

We are really pleased & excited to announce that a very special chapbook is now available for pre-order:

HEROES by Richard Chizmar & John Schaech

"Heroes" by Richard Chizmar was first published twenty-five years ago and has become Chizmar's most-reprinted short story. It has been praised by the likes of Publishers Weekly and Locus, and in an introduction to this brand new tribute book, Chizmar explains why the story is so special to him:

Originally written for a paperback anthology of vampire tales, I still remember receiving the invitation from the book's editor and feeling determined to do something different with the vampire mythology.

While I loved the scary, bloodsucking vampires of Dracula and 'Salem's Lot and I Am Legend, I figured that most of the anthology's writers would wind up following that familiar dark path—and I wanted to try something else. Something focused on the lore-based concept of vampires being able to grant eternal life with a bite to the neck—but in an uplifting manner, instead of a menacing one.

Somehow, from all those admittedly jumbled thoughts, I ended up with "Heroes"—a story about love and hope and redemption. Not in the romantic sense, mind you, but instead a father and son love story.

A love letter, as it turned out, to my own father, who was doing quite fine at the time, still out there in his mid-60's, mowing the lawn and tinkering with his car most evenings in the garage.

I wrote the story longhand, sitting in my junker of a Datsun in a college parking lot. I remember the story surprised me. It came fast and furious, and when I finished scribbling the final sentence, I had a lump in my throat.

The story wasn't scary, and it never once utilized the word "vampire"—but it was powerful and true, and most of all, it was me.

My voice. My heart. My fears.

It was the first time I'd felt that I had written a truly "honest" story—and it felt like magic.

Many years later, Chizmar's childhood friend and successful actor/director, John Schaech, would fall in love with "Heroes," and the two of them would combine forces to write and produce a short movie based on the story starring Djimon Hounsou and Christina Applegate.

Now, for the first time ever, the original short story "Heroes" will appear alongside the original film script (co-written by Chizmar and Schaech) and a special graphic adaptation (featuring stunning comic artwork by Nino Cammarata) created exclusively for this special volume. In addition to featuring rare photographs from the film set, Chizmar and Schaech also contribute an original Introduction and Afterword.

The book is beautifully illustrated by Italian artist Nino Cammarata and is available in two states:

A Signed & Numbered Limited Paperback Edition which is signed by both authors and the illustrator and is limited to only 200 signed and numbered copies and printed in full colour.

A Signed & Lettered Deluxe Hardcover Edition which is signed by both authors and the illustrator and is limited to only 52 signed and lettered copies printed in full premium colour. It also comes with an exclusive Signed & Matching Lettered Deluxe Paperback edition of the graphic adaptation printed in full premium colour.

We are really pleased to announce that the first graphic novel in the three-book series RISE OF THE HARVESTER by Steve McGinnis is now available. The book will be officially launched at Rue Morgue’s Dark Carnival Horror Culture & Entertainment Expo on July 9, 2016 in Hamilton, Ontario.

About the Book:

Samuel Troyer was different than the other children in the small village of Brantwood. He was much bigger and stronger. And he was a little odd, which made him an outcast and a loner. But when his father finds willing children for him to play with, his dark side surfaces and new formed friendships end all too quickly.

When the townsfolk learn of the fruits of his darkness they seek their revenge. They murder and bury poor Samuel in an unmarked grave and try their best to cast him from their minds forever.

Seasons pass and the townsfolk forget what they did to poor Samuel.

But Samuel’s darkness is much stronger than death. The strange little boy is gone and forgotten, but a new life is born called The Harvester, and he’s hell-bent on revenge.

This dark, new being then teaches the people of Brantwood to never forget that we reap what we sow…

Shelley's Monster, Leiber's Demons of the Upper Air, Blatty's Exorcist, Strand's Aspiring Lunatic, Curran's Corpse King, Crowther's Eater, Ketchum's Gorilla, O'Nan's Monsters, and every shadow, terror and nightmare in between, are all here. Gilberts provides an insightful introductory essay, and Keith also supplies a complete and detailed index of the work presented.

NIGHT WRAITH IS UNLEASHED!

We’re very happy to announce the official publication day for Christopher Fulbright & Angeline Hawkes’ brand new novel NIGHT WRAITH.

Cover art © Vincent Sammy Something inhuman is slaughtering teens in the small town of Carson Lake. Police Chief Gavin Wagner knows more than he wants to admit, but when he can no longer deny that a secret from his past compels the thing that stalks the night, Gavin must face the truth or lose everything he loves.

Years ago, Gavin protected his daughter Carly from the full truth about her mother’s suicide. Talk of covens and the occult wouldn’t have done his little girl any good in her time of grief. He did it to help them heal, to help them move on. But now that Carly has blossomed into a beautiful young woman, dark forces have awakened, and his omission of truth may cost them their lives.

As Gavin strives to end the growing horror, desperately seeking people and clues that have disappeared beneath shrouds of mystery, Carly’s world is shaken, astir with strange manifestations, ghostly visitations, and the allure of witchcraft. Gavin must overcome his personal demons and find the answers he seeks in time to save them all from the thing that’s coming, reaching out from beyond, lurking in black shadows, hungry for blood and revenge . . .

PUBLICATION DAY!

The Trade Paperback edition of VOICES OF THE DAMNED by Barbie Wilde is now available!

" In this impressive collection of short stories, actor Wilde (who played the Female Cenobite in the film classic Hellbound: Hellraiser II) reveals a world of beautiful fear. The most delightfully terrifying entries form the Cilicium Trilogy, which reveals the complex origin and destiny of Sister Cilice. This character-focused exploration is sensual in its brutality. In "Writer's Block," Wilde combines the psychological torture of an unknown artist with the erotic egotism of fandom to create a fascinating sexual horror. She creates a dreadful family legacy in "Botophobia," in which there are not merely skeletons in the closet but unworldly powers hidden in the basement. Wilde's mastery of shocking violence is given full rein in subjects ranging from reclusive self-imprisonment to the exploration of European nightmares. As much a chilling collection of frightful fiction as a delight for the darker senses, this is a satisfying triumph in a befitting, unforgiving, style."Publishers Weekly (starred review)

General Quotes:

'Paul Kane is a first-rate storyteller, never failing to marry his insights into the world and its anguish with the pleasures of phrases eloquently turned.'
-Clive Barker, bestselling author of THE HELLBOUND HEART, ABARAT, MISTER B. GONE and THE SCARLET GOSPELS

'I'm impressed by the range of Paul Kane's imagination. It seems there is no risk, no high-stakes gamble, he fears to take…Kane's foot never gets even close to the brake pedal.'
-Peter Straub, bestselling author of GHOST STORY, MR X, LOST BOY LOST GIRL, IN THE NIGHT ROOM and A DARK MATTER

'Kane finds the everyday horrors buried within us, rips them out and serves them up in these deliciously dark tales.'
-Kelley Armstrong, bestselling author of BITTEN, HAUNTED, BROKEN, THIRTEEN and OMENS

'Paul Kane's lean, stripped-back prose is a tool that's very much fit for purpose. He knows how to make you want to avoid the shadows and the cracks in the pavement.'
-Mike Carey, bestselling author of THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, VICIOUS CIRCLE, DEAD MEN'S BOOTS, THICKER THAN WATER, THE NAMING OF THE BEASTS and THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS

Praise for RED:

'In RED Kane reveals himself to be a sensitive writer, someone who has a solid grasp of relationships and who isn't afraid to use that knowledge. His characters feel like real people, and that's essential if you're going to pit them against such a foe. He makes you care about them. Then he sends them out into the darkest parts of this urban jungle… So get ready to take this journey through a very modern fairytale. It has teeth, but not just at the end. These days, the path itself is full of dangers.'
-Tim Lebbon, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of COLDBROOK, ECHO CITY, DAWN OF THE JEDI and THE SILENCE

'Kane is well respected in the United Kingdom, getting praise from such giants of the genre as Clive Barker, Simon Clark, Jeff Mariotte and Graham Masterton... RED is a tale about Rachael Daniels, a caseworker travelling through the modern jungle - a crime-ridden, gang-banging city - to help an elderly lady. RED not only tips its hat to "Little Red Riding Hood," but "Peter And The Wolf," and "Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf?" and every werewolf type motif in between... This time around Kane puts a twisted horror spin to it, with even a fair amount of social criticism thrown in for good measure; due to mature themes, you'll want to keep the kids away from this one... Kane does an incredible job of combing horror and humour into one tasty morsel.'
-CEMETERY DANCE Magazine

'Kane expands on the "Little Red Riding Hood" mythos with a sharply-written novella that pits a descendent of the classic fairytale character against the "real" creature of the same story. But make NO mistake: this isn't for kids! You can tell Kane had a real ball twisting time updating "Riding Hood", especially in how he has crafted this new, psycho-sexual "wolf." For the sake of not ruining anything else, let's just say RED is a real BLOODY good time.'
-HORROR FICTION REVIEW

'RED is a gleefully gruesome tale that moves at an excellent pace. Its length is a joy, reminiscent of a line from another fairy tale: "Not too big, not too small, just right." Paul Kane does a rip roaring rendition of the Red Riding Hood story… He has the gift of summing up a situation in a sentence. RED is wonderfully written; it is easy to sink one's teeth into it and devour it with relish.'
-HELLNOTES

'RED by Paul Kane is a modern-day retelling of a classic fairy tale. The character of Rachael Daniels is one that many can identify with. The monster is a terrifying hunter who has the ability to shape-shift. He is intelligent, patient, and always hungry. He is the sort of monster that does not need any supernatural powers to make him terrifying, however the added abilities make him even more dangerous. It is entirely believable that he has been doing this for centuries in cities all over Europe because he is so smart and clever, and one is reminded of tales of a dark Trickster character from legends around the world when reading this story. The suspense builds from the very fact that the reader has some idea of what is going to happen. When the woman is murdered in the restaurant bathroom, the reader knows that is not the end and is left to wonder what horrors are still to come. The whole story builds up to a rather fascinating climax…This is a good scary story for those stormy nights or bright days. It is strong enough to terrify either way and will stay in your mind for days afterwards. Stories like this don't come along very often, as all readers know.'
-HORROR BOUND MAGAZINE

'Once upon a time, there was a British speculative writer named Paul Kane, who was well respected in the United Kingdom... Then one day, Kane wrote a devilish little novella named Red and decided to get it published across the pond, in a faraway land called America... He even dared to do a retelling of the popular Grimm Brothers fairytale "Little Red Riding Hood" but this time around puts a twisted horror spin to it… The novella is bloody brilliant - clever, classy and bound to chill you to the bone.'
-Michael McCarty, HORROR WORLD

'A relentless and grisly fairytale for dark times, RED is filled with the blackest blood from the deepest parts of our bodies, and is thoroughly recommended.'
-Mathew Riley, BOOKGEEKS

ARKHAM ASYLUM (1989) written by Scottish author/playwright Grant Morrison, still the single most successful graphic novel ever published, was also illustrated by Dave. 1995 saw collaborations with the Rolling Stones (VOODOO LOUNGE), and Rachel Pollack (THE VERTIGO TAROT).

Between 1990 and 1996, Dave also wrote and illustrated the 500 page comic novel CAGES, which won the Harvey Award for Best new comic and best graphic novel, the Ignatz Award, the International Alph Art award and Italy's La Pantera Award. His collection of short stories in comics form, PICTURES THAT TICK released in 2000, won the Victoria and Albert Museum Illustrated Book of the Year Award, and several of McKean's books are in the V&A collection.

He has won various awards including the international Amid Award for the best album cover of the year (one of over a 150 covers designed, illustrated and photographed since 1990, including recent releases by Michael Nyman, Tori Amos, Real World, Altan, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Bill Laswell, Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Counting Crows, Front Line Assembly, and Bill Bruford), and the World Fantasy Award for the SANDMAN covers. In 1996 he composed and performed the music for the BBC Radio adaptation of SIGNAL TO NOISE with saxophonist Iain Ballamy, with whom he has recently initiated the Feral Records label. Dave's Hourglass studio and Allen Speigel Fine Arts in California have also co-published three collections of photographs: A SMALL BOOK OF BLACK & WHITE LIES, OPTION: CLICK and THE PARTICLE TAROT which includes an introduction by legendary director and Tarot master Alejandro Jodorowsky.

In the last few years Dave completed his first children's books: THE DAY I SWAPPED MY DAD FOR TWO GOLDFISH and THE WOLVES IN THE WALLS (NY TIMES Illustrated Book of the Year) both written by Neil Gaiman, and VARJAK PAW (Smarties Gold Award) written by SF Said. Also a book with Stephen King (WIZARD & GLASS), books and TV films with Iain Sinclair (SLOW CHOCOLATE AUTOPSY, ASYLUM and THE FALCONER), and designs for the autobiography of John Cale: WHAT'S WELSH FOR ZEN.

Dave is currently finishing a book of paintings (NITRATE), more travel sketchbooks (PERUGIA, BILBAO and VENICE) and a new graphic novel (CALIGARO). Also, new books with Neil Gaiman and David Almond, and a collection of all Dave's short film projects is in the works for release in 2015/16. He lives on the Isle of Oxney in Kent, England with his wife and studio manager Clare, and their two children. Visit his official site at www.davemckean.com.

THE FIRST HORROR COLLECTION
FROM FEMALE CENOBITE
AND AUTHOR BARBIE WILDE

"Damaged people, ultraviolence, murder and explicit sex-what's not to love about her work?"
-"Bad Barbie" Featurette,
Fangoria (America's #1 Horror Magazine)

Enter into the mind of Barbie Wilde, whose disturbing interior world teems with the voices of rebellious female demons, devilish witches, semen-hungry neo-vampires, raging gods and home invaders, the fiends of sleep paralysis, pint-sized store-front preachers with a whiff of sulfur, body horrors of the most grotesque kind, clandestine aliens and Zulu zombies.

These truly are the Voices of the Damned: eleven short horror stories from Barbie Wilde, actress (
Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Death Wish 3) and dark crime-horror novelist (The Venus Complex). Fangoria has called Wilde "one of the finest purveyors of erotically charged horror fiction around."

Each story is accompanied by seductive, haunting, full color artworks and illustrations created by some of the most imaginative artists in the genre: Clive Barker, Nick Percival, Steve McGinnis, Daniele Serra, Eric Gross, Tara Bush, Vincent Sammy, & Ben Baldwin.

SST Publisher Paul Fry says: "I'm really excited to be publishing Barbie Wilde's first collection. The book really is a work of art, from Barbie's incredible stories, which are beautifully written and laced with wickedly erotic content, to the extraordinary full color artwork and illustrations. The 7 x 10 inch oversized format really displays the full color artwork to its very best. The artists that have very kindly agreed to work on this book really add that special touch to an already fantastic collection of short stories. I'm really honored to be able to publish everyone involved, especially Barbie, as she has her very own visceral style and unique talent for sick and twisted storytelling."

About the Author: "Barbie Wilde is best known for playing the Female Cenobite in Clive Barker's classic British cult horror movie, HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II. Before moving to the UK, Wilde attended Syracuse University in New York State, majoring in Drama and Anthropology. She continued her education in London, studying Drama, Classical Mime and Art History, before joining Britain's largest classical mime troupe, SILENTS.

Wilde has performed in cabaret in Bangkok, Thailand; robotically danced in the Indian blockbuster, JANBAAZ; was a vicious thug in Michael Winner's DEATH WISH 3; and played a drummer in the so-called "Holy Grail of unfinished and unreleased 80's horror": GRIZZLY II: THE CONCERT, which also featured then unknowns George Clooney, Laura Dern and Charlie Sheen.

In the early 1980s, Wilde danced professionally at the top nightclubs and rock venues of New York, London and Amsterdam with her group, SHOCK. SHOCK released two singles on RCA Records and supported such artists as Gary Numan, Ultravox, Depeche Mode and Adam and the Ants.

Wilde wrote and presented eight music and film review TV programs in the 1980s and 1990s, interviewing such pop personalities as Iggy Pop, The Sisters of Mercy, The B-52s and Johnny Rotten, as well as actors Nicolas Cage and Hugh Grant. Wilde was also a Casting Director for the BBC's THE BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA and for MTV's THE REAL WORLD: LONDON.

In 2009-2015, Wilde contributed short stories to 14 horror or crime anthologies and publications.

In 2012, Comet Press published Wilde's debut serial killer novel, THE VENUS COMPLEX.

Their mother died when they were young. Their only parent was an absent cop father who preferred women and scotch to raising them. So Chet being older had to raise Michael.

Chet was the quiet responsible one; Michael was the handsome wild one who came to resent Chet's rules and regulations.

Michael still resents them especially when Chet tries to break up the affair his younger married brother is having on the side. Neither man is willing to back down. Neither man is a stranger to violence.

Then Chet decides to pay a late night visit to the woman he calls his brother's whore....

BESTSELLING AND AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR & EDITOR PAUL KANE SIGNS MULTI-BOOK DEAL WITH SST PUBLICATIONS

BIRMINGHAM, UK, January 16, 2015 - Short, Scary Tales Publications (SST Publications) owner, Paul Fry is delighted to welcome bestselling and award-winning author & editor Paul Kane to SST's stables with a multi-book deal. The first of these publications will be Blood RED, a reprint of Paul's 2008 horror fairytale RED (now incredibly rare) alongside its brand new sequel. The book will again feature cover art from the wonderful Dave McKean (Sandman, The Graveyard Book, Mirrormask), will be introduced by Alison Littlewood (A Cold Season, Path of Needles, The Unquiet House) and will come complete with some very special extras. The other releases include a graphic novel adaptation of Paul's book Lunar (soon to be a motion picture) and a 'Best of...' collection celebrating Paul's 20 years as a professional writer.

Paul Kane is the award-winning, bestselling author and editor of over fifty publications -- including the Arrowhead trilogy (gathered together in the sellout Hooded Man omnibus, revolving around a post-apocalyptic version of Robin Hood), The Butterfly Man and Other Stories, Hellbound Hearts and The Mammoth Book of Body Horror. His non-fiction books include The Hellraiser Films and Their Legacy and Voices in the Dark, and his genre journalism has appeared in the likes of SFX, Dreamwatch and Rue Morgue. He has been a Guest at Alt.Fiction five times, was a Guest at the first SFX Weekender, at Thought Bubble in 2011, Derbyshire Literary Festival, Edge-Lit and Off the Shelf in 2012, plus Monster Mash and Event Horizon in 2013, as well as being a panellist at FantasyCon and the World Fantasy Convention. His work has been optioned and adapted for the big and small screen, including for network US television, plus his latest novels are Lunar (set to be turned into a feature film) and the Y.A. story The Rainbow Man (as P.B. Kane). He lives in Derbyshire, UK, with his wife Marie O'Regan, his family and a black cat called Mina. Find out more at his site www.shadow-writer.co.uk which has featured Guest Writers such as Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Charlaine Harris, Dean Koontz and Guillermo del Toro.

General Quotes:

'Paul Kane is a first-rate storyteller, never failing to marry his insights into the world and its anguish with the pleasures of phrases eloquently turned.'
(Clive Barker - Bestselling author of The Hellbound Heart, Abarat, Mr B. Gone and The Scarlet Gospels)

'I'm impressed by the range of Paul Kane's imagination. It seems there is no risk, no high-stakes gamble, he fears to take...Kane's foot never gets even close to the brake pedal.'
(Peter Straub - Bestselling author of Ghost Story, Mr X, Lost Boy Lost Girl, In the Night Room and A Dark Matter)

'Kane finds the everyday horrors buried within us, rips them out and serves them up in these deliciously dark tales.'
(Kelley Armstrong - Bestselling author of Bitten, Haunted, Broken, Thirteen and Omens)

'Paul Kane's lean, stripped-back prose is a tool that's very much fit for purpose. He knows how to make you want to avoid the shadows and the cracks in the pavement.'
(Mike Carey - Bestselling author of The Devil You Know, Vicious Circle, Dead Men's Boots, Thicker Than Water, The Naming of the Beasts and The Girl With All The Gifts)

Praise for RED:

'In RED Kane reveals himself to be a sensitive writer, someone who has a solid grasp of relationships and who isn't afraid to use that knowledge. His characters feel like real people, and that's essential if you're going to pit them against such a foe. He makes you care about them. Then he sends them out into the darkest parts of this urban jungle... So get ready to take this journey through a very modern fairytale. It has teeth, but not just at the end. These days, the path itself is full of dangers.'
(Tim Lebbon - New York Times bestselling author of Coldbrook, Echo City, Dawn of the Jedi and The Silence)

'Kane is well respected in the United Kingdom, getting praise from such giants of the genre as Clive Barker, Simon Clark, Jeff Mariotte and Graham Masterton... RED is a tale about Rachael Daniels, a caseworker travelling through the modern jungle - a crime-ridden, gang-banging city -- to help an elderly lady.
(Cemetery Dance Magazine)

'Kane expands on the "Little Red Riding Hood" mythos with a sharply-written novella that pits a descendent of the classic fairytale character against the "real" creature of the same story. But make NO mistake: this isn't for kids! You can tell Kane had a real ball twisting time updating "Riding Hood", especially in how he has crafted this new, psycho-sexual "wolf." For the sake of not ruining anything else, let's just say RED is a real BLOODY good time.'
(Horror Fiction Review)

'RED is a gleefully gruesome tale that moves at an excellent pace. Its length is a joy, reminiscent of a line from another fairy tale: "Not too big, not too small, just right." Paul Kane does a rip roaring rendition of the Red Riding Hood story... He has the gift of summing up a situation in a sentence. RED is wonderfully written; it is easy to sink one's teeth into it and devour it with relish.'
(Hellnotes)

The whole story builds up to a rather fascinating climax...This is a good scary story for those stormy nights or bright days. It is strong enough to terrify either way and will stay in your mind for days afterwards. Stories like this don't come along very often, as all readers know.'
(Horror Bound Magazine)

'Once upon a time, there was a British speculative writer named Paul Kane, who was well respected in the United Kingdom... Then one day, Kane wrote a devilish little novella named Red and decided to get it published across the pond, in a faraway land called America... He even dared to do a retelling of the popular Grimm Brothers fairytale "Little Red Riding Hood" but this time around puts a twisted horror spin to it... The novella is bloody brilliant - clever, classy and bound to chill you to the bone.'
(Michael McCarty, Horror World)

'A relentless and grisly fairytale for dark times, RED is filled with the blackest blood from the deepest parts of our bodies, and is thoroughly recommended.'
(Mathew Riley, BookGeeks)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING BEWARE THE DARK MAGAZINE

BIRMINGHAM, UK, December 28, 2013 - Short, Scary Tales Publications (SST Publications) Owner, Paul Fry has some important information regarding Beware the Dark magazine.

Paul said: "Due to recent changes in my financial situation, unless sales and subscriptions to Beware the Dark magazine dramatically increase, Issue #2 will be the last issue.

I always like to be honest with people and I just don't have the money to spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds per issue on Beware the Dark when sales and subscriptions are so poor. I understand that it can take years for a magazine to gain a readership but I just don't have the money to spend on it hoping that it will catch on I'm afraid. To date I've only sold about 53 copies of issue #1 and I've only sold 11 subscriptions. When you take into consideration that those are worldwide sales figures, they're really poor. Obviously I don't expect people to buy or subscribe if the mag isn't their kind of thing, or if they just don't fancy it. But unfortunately if it isn't people's kind of thing or they don't fancy it and buy a copy or subscribe then there's no point in publishing it. I publish people's work because I love it so much, and if I had lots of money to waste I would continue to publish it for years to come whether anyone bought it or not. But I just don't have the huge amount of money to spend on each issue if no one is going to buy it. I at least need to try and recover my costs so I can publish the next issue. I know magazines don't make any money, I don't publish any of my titles to make a profit, I just need to recover most of my costs so I have the cash to publish the next issue. It just looks like Beware the Dark isn't people's kind of mag unfortunately.

People have mentioned Kickstarter and Indiegogo—and this is no disrespect to people that use those kinds of crowd funding platforms to generate cash—but I'm personally not a big fan of them. To me it's a little too much like begging for money. As I said earlier I really don't expect anyone to buy the magazine out of pity. If it's not their kind of thing then that's completely fine, I totally understand. But if people don't buy it then there isn't any point in publishing it I'm afraid.

I feel terrible (if issue #2 is the last one) about the people whose work I've already accepted. But if people aren't buying the mag then their work isn't going to be seen so it doesn't really make any difference if it's published in BTD anyway. The bottom line with anything really is that if people aren't interested then you have to cut your losses.

If you can please share this with everyone hopefully sales may pick up a little, but if they don't Issue #2 will have to be the last issue as I've already spent a serious amount of money and I really can't afford to lose any more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I'm sorry to be so negative, I just wanted to let everyone know the situation I'm in. I really love Beware the Dark and all the amazing people I've been incredibly lucky to get to be a part of it. But it just seems that not many other people love it like I do. :("

ERIC RED'S DEBUT EROTIC THRILLER NOVEL DON'T STAND SO CLOSE RE-LAUNCHES WITH NEW COVER ART

BIRMINGHAM, UK, December 8, 2013 - Short, Scary Tales Publications (SST Publications) Owner, Paul Fry is very pleased to announce that the trade paperback and eBook editions of Eric Red's first novel Don't Stand So Close have re-launched with a brand new cover. Paul stated: "We're really excited to re-launch Eric's novel with a brand new cover which we feel now perfectly captures the book's erotic thriller theme. We believe that the cover is much more eye-catching and more striking."

About Don't Stand So Close: "She was every student’s fantasy and he was the teacher’s pet. She was older, beautiful and experienced. It was the brush of her hand passing back homework. That special glance. He spent hours in class imagining what her body looked like under her dress, until the day came when they had their first kiss. But his wildest dreams soon became his worst nightmare. She took him to forbidden places he wasn’t ready for, but when he wanted to stop she wouldn’t let him. If she couldn’t have him, nobody could, and lives would be lost before it was over. He never should have crossed the line with his teacher, because some lines should never, ever be crossed."

Praise for the book:

“A powerful concoction of one part coming-of-age story, one part erotic thriller, and the sexiest and most twisted villain ever to give a homework assignment.â€
